Victor Anichebe Can Help Sunderland End Their Close To Ten-Hour Barren Spell

Sunderland coach David Moyes is confident that Nigeria international Victor Anichebe will help the team end their close to ten-hour goal drought following his return from injury against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

The Black Cats have not scored since Jermain Defoe hit target in the 40th minute of their 3-1 loss to Stoke City on January 14, and Anichebe was close to ending the barren run but was denied by the woodwork three minutes after his introduction.

“Getting Victor Anichebe will help a little bit,” Moyes said in his post match comments, according to chroniclelive.co.uk.

“I’m not saying he will come in and score us another 10 or 20 goals, but it will help us make some more opportunities.

“I think if Victor’s shot had gone in off the post, it would have given everyone a lift, it would have been 1-1 with about 10 minutes to go and it might have been a different story.”

In 12 Premier League outings for the Stadium of Light outfit this term, Anichebe has scored three goals and he is the second top scorer for the team.

Igho Kingsley
