Germany Would Make Things More Difficult For NFF As Hamburg Star Set For Competitive U19 Debut
Promising Hamburg midfielder Jonas David has been invited to Germany's U19 National Team for international games this month.

The 19-year-old is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father but the Germans have made it more difficult for the three-time African champions as the midfielder would become provisionally cap-tied to the European powerhouse if he makes his competitive debut for the U19s in the 2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers in March.

The Germans face Croatia on 20th March, before games against Norway (March 23) and Hungary (March 26).

David made non-competitive appearances for Germany U19s in November 2018, against Portugal, Netherlands and Armenia, and must have impressed manager Guido Streichsbier in those three games as he has been invited again to the national team.

Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and central defender, he made his professional debut on the opening day of the 2018-2019 season against Holstein Kiel when he replaced David Bates in the 56th minute at Volksparkstadion.

David has been playing for Hamburg's youth teams since joining the club from Eintracht Norderstedt in July 2014.
