They Only Trained Together For One Day' - Nigerians React To Dream Team VII Loss To Libya
Published: March 21, 2019Nigerians were clearly displeased with what the Nigeria U23s had to offer at the Stade de Ben Guerdane, contriving to lose 2-0 to Libya in their AFCON U-23 qualifier first leg.
In truth, it is almost unarguable that this Dream Team was made up of a group of individuals who barely knew each other relatively well, having trained just once before the game and thus, it showed.
Though there is still hope of turning the scoreline around should they draw inspiration from the Mombasa '95 adventure, the team need to up their performance in the return leg and might even need some help from one or two members of the senior national team.
Below are a few of the tweets from Nigerians explaining the misdemeanor.
@okparaonline: I don't know what magic people expected with only one training session before an international match. Half of these players had only seen the others on the tv talk less played with them. Even if them bring Okocha there was no hope. Second leg will be better due to a weeks training
@slimy8989: Aren't you tired of losing NFF, we have the players , stop this rubbish foreign base player , home base will beat France & Argentina ... NFF grow , aren't you tired of losing ?
@theoddsolace: Many things one could say about this match, especially the poor game management. Really though, this U23 side just looks like what it is: a group that has not trained together a lot. FT Libya 2-0 Nigeria All to do in Asaba on Monday.
@bolanlesuly: We need a proper youth system in our sport. We can't continue gathering players from Mars and Jupiter and expect they jell seamlessly.
@Okwuchi: I wouldn't be too harsh on Nigeria's U23 team. They only trained together on one day, which was yesterday. Despite the circumstances, they looked pretty good in the second half. I think they'll do a lot better in the second leg.
@Nonnyfaso: Waoo but it is too sudden how many days have all these foreign base players have assembled and now have played a match.
