The Unexpected Decision Made By Aigbogun That Could Affect Nigeria U20 Display in Poland
Published: May 02, 2019It's no longer news that the Flying Eagles of Nigeria are currently in Germany preparing for the upcoming U20 World Cup tournament in Poland.
The head coach Paul Aigbogun revealed his 31-man provisional squad list last week and German-born netminder Maduka Okoye was surprisingly overlooked by the gaffer.
Aigbogun's decision to ignore the youngster remains a surprise one to many fans who have so much believe in Okoye's goalkeeping prowess.
Will his omission stop the Flying Eagles from progressing out of group stage, or will it prevent the team from keeping many clean sheets?
These questions will be answered correctly with time, but one certain thing is that Okoye's presence between the sticks will add more quality and class to the team at the back.
The exposure and experience gained while playing for his German side Fortuna Düsseldorf II will be very vital in helping the team keep as many clean sheets as possible.
This is not to take anything away from Olawale Oremade's ability, the Oasis FC goalkeeper is a great goalie but his inexperience could go against him when he faces top European and American youngsters.
However, Okoye's omission could be a blessing in disguise because it creates an opportunity for him to be a part of the Nigeria U23 squad.
