No Cause For Alarm : AFCONQ Top Scorer Ighalo Timescale On His Hamstring Injury Revealed
Published: May 12, 2019Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Gernot Rohr has received good news all the way from China concerning the top scorer of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Odion Ighalo.
Nigerians were left scratching their heads after Ighalo suffered an injury, which led to his substitution in the 12th minute of Shanghai Shenhua's 1-1 draw vs Tianjin Teda on Friday and it was speculated that the striker was going to miss the Africa Cup of Nations.
After tests carried out on the Super Eagles star this weekend, the injury has been classified as a hamstring problem and he is facing two to three weeks on the sidelines.
But there is nothing to worry about as Ighalo's participation in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is within the time frame for his recovery and his return date if he does not suffer a relapse would be on June 1, a day before the Super Eagles players are expected to begin training for the tournament in Egypt.
The former Watford man is certain to miss Shanghai Shenhua's next league match vs Shandong Luneng, while he is doubtful to face Dalian Yifang and Chongqing Dangdai Lifan.
Nigeria's deadliest striker since the 2018 World Cup ended has 7 goals to his name in the 2019 season.
