Equatorial Guinea finally cap-tie Spanish-born Nigerian defender who can also play as a centre-forward

The Equatoguinean Football Federation have finally cap-tied released Huddersfield Town fullback Charles Nduwuisi Ondo, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Ondo offers versatility as he capable of playing as  a left-back, centre-back, midfielder and centre-forward.

Spanish-born Ondo was eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his father and qualifies for Equatorial Guinea, where his mother originally hails from.

Nine months after making his international debut for the Elephants off the bench in an AFCON qualifier against Libya, Ondo earned his fourth cap, leaving the Nigeria Football Federation and Royal Spanish Football Federation unable to recruit him in future.

He played in two friendly matches and two competitive games before turning 21, so he can no longer request for a change of association to represent either Nigeria or Spain.

The versatile defender came off the bench in the first minute of stoppage time to replace Iban Salvador as Equatorial Guinea claimed a 1-0 win over Malawi in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Monday, June 10.

Equatorial Guinea had the opportunity to cap-tie Ondo during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but he remained on the bench for matches against Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast and Guinea.

CD Illescas central defender Marvin Anieboh and UD Las Palmas star Saúl Basilio Coco-Bassey Oubiña, who both have Nigerian blood flowing in their veins, are also cap-tied to Equatorial Guinea.
