More competition for Madueke as Chelsea agree deal for winger with 111 PL appearances
Published: August 09, 2024As revealed by David Ornstein for The Athletic, Chelsea have agreed a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Pedro Neto, who will compete for a spot in the starting lineup with Nigerian winger Noni Madueke.
The Blues will pay €60m plus €3m in potential bonuses to acquire the services of the Portuguese winger who has made 111 Premier League appearances and was previously courted by Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Enzo Maresca has been keen on bolstering his attacking options with the addition of a right winger this summer and attempted to sign French-Nigerian forward Michael Olise who opted to join Bayern Munich rather than move to Stamford Bridge.
This makes the imminent signing of Neto not surprising with the winger now set to become Chelsea's ninth or tenth acquisition of this summer, depending on when his move is confirmed by the club as a deal has also been agreed for Samu Omorodion.
The arrival of the Portuguese forward poses a huge threat to Madueke who is getting into his groove ahead of the new campaign, scoring three goals in the past three pre-season games but his game time could be hampered by the arrival of the Wolves forward.
Since landing at Chelsea in January 2023, the England U21 international of Nigerian descent has started 26 games from a possible 74 in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Newcastle and he has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Magpies and his move to the club may now be accelerated with the arrival of Neto.
