Official: Super Eagles winger Ishaq departs NK Maribor for ND Primorje
Published: August 09, 2024Through official channels, Slovenian side ND Primorje announced the signing of Super Eagles winger striker, Ishaq Rafiu from Maribor.
The Nigerian forward signed a two-year contract with the sons of Burja after a disappointing spell with Maribor.
Ishaq moved to Maribor in the summer of 2022 after a standout season with Rivers United in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Despite his promising start, the 23-year-old struggled to make an impact at Maribor, appearing in just ten matches in all competitions over a two-year period.
At the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season, Maribor decided to release him from his contract due to persistent injury issues.
In an interview with allnigeriasoccer.com, Abdullahi Adekunle Yusuf, the player's manager, conveyed that Ishaq is enthusiastic about the transfer.
He stressed that Ishaq views this as a fresh chance to showcase his abilities in European football.
"Ishaq endured a challenging season as he was sidelined with injuries for the majority of the last campaign."
"He is delighted to return to the pitch and is determined to showcase his talent in European football," stated his representative.
Making his debut for Nigeria in a friendly match against Mexico in 2022 in the United States, Ishaq showcased his capabilities on the international stage.
A graduate of Abraysports, Ishaq's versatility allows him to play in various positions in the forward line, and will hope to be successful at ND Primorje to reignite his career.
