Super Eagles arrival video: Sevilla striker Iheanacho is 21st player in Nigeria camp pre-Benin
Published: September 04, 2024Sevilla striker Kelechi Iheanacho joined the Super Eagles camp on Wednesday morning, bringing the number of players in camp at breakfast to twenty-one ahead of Nigeria's crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September 2024.
The arrival of Iheanacho provides interim manager Austin Eguavoen with additional tactical flexibility as he prepares the team for the matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Nigeria will kick off their quest for a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco by facing Republic of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 7, followed by a match against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday, September 10.
A video sent to reporters by the Super Eagles media team captured Iheanacho's arrival, where he was warmly greeted by team staff who assisted him with his luggage and helped him settle into the camp.
The forward is set to join his teammates in training as the Super Eagles continue their preparations for the opening qualifier against Benin Republic.
Training for the Super Eagles began on Tuesday evening, with 20 players present under the guidance of Eguavoen, along with his assistants Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede.
The team is determined to start their AFCON qualifiers on a high note with a victory over Benin Republic, aiming to bounce back from their recent poor run of form.
Since losing the 2023 AFCON final to Ivory Coast, Nigeria have struggled to regain its winning momentum, recording only one victory in their last five matches.
The team lost to Mali and the Republic of Benin, drew against South Africa, and managed a win against Ghana.
The Super Eagles will look to turn the tide and build confidence by securing a strong performance against Benin Republic on Saturday, hoping to set the tone for a successful AFCON 2025 qualification campaign.
