Super Falcons-eligible midfielder registered by Arsenal in Champions League squad ahead of Rangers tie
Published: September 04, 2024Super Falcons-eligible midfielder Omotara Junaid has been registered by Arsenal in their UEFA Women's Champions League squad ahead of Wednesday evening's first qualifying round clash against Scottish Women's Premier League side Rangers at Meadow Park, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall will be able to call upon the services of the tri-national teenager if the need arises as she's among the players named in the List B,
A player may be registered on List B if she is born on, or after, 1 January 2003 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since her 15th birthday by the time she is registered with UEFA.
Players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption.
The 16-year-old Junaid, who is also eligible to represent the national teams of England and United States, will sport the number 50 on the back of her jersey if she is named in the matchday squad to face Rangers.
She was a key member of the England squad at the 2024 UEFA Women's U17 Championship, starring as the Young Lionesses qualified for next month's World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Junaid, who turns 17 next month, agreed a fresh two-year deal at Arsenal before the start of the new season, and has been promoted to the U21 squad for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons.
The winner of the Arsenal versus Rangers tie will do battle with either Atletico Madrid or Rosenborg on Saturday.
