Ideal starting XI: Orlando Pirates ace Ndah names seven Super Eagles players that should start v Benin
Published: September 07, 2024Orlando Pirates central defender Olisa Ndah has included seven Super Eagles players from the squad selected for the September internationals in his ideal starting eleven.
The 26-year-old was handed a call-up to the squad for the first time since participating at the AFCON in 2021 but faces an uphill task in getting game time in the coming games.
Ndah is highly rated by interim coach Austin Eguavoen who explained during his pre-match conference yesterday why the Orlando Pirates skipper has been handed a recall.
However, he has an uphill task in the forthcoming games as he has skipper William Troost-Ekong, former Arsenal defender Semi Ajayi and Fulham ace Calvin Bassey, all of whom have become a mainstay in the team, to contend with.
Besides the competition for places, the Super Eagles are in a poor run of form which will make it difficult to carry out an experiment on the selection of players for today's clash.
The right-footed defender has picked seven Super Eagles players, currently in Uyo with the national team and in the running to play against the Cheetahs, for his ideal starting XI.
They are Stanley Nwabali, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.
"I will put Nwabali in goal. I want peace to reign in this camp. Thabiso Monyane as right back, five and six, I will say Ekong and Omeruo, left back Ola Aina" he told Victor Modo's YouTube channel.
"One defensive midfielder Ndidi, central midfielder I will pick Thalenthe Mbatha, attacking midfielder I will say Tito.
"11 is easy, I will say Moses, number 7 Lookman, I don't need to say much Osimhen"
Ndah has made only one competitive appearance for the three-time African champions, making him the least experienced defender in camp but will be hoping to leave an impression that will be enough to secure him a place in the squad.
