Osimhen bags assist on Galatasaray debut, Rizespor CB rushed to hospital after collision with Napoli loanee
Published: September 14, 2024Victor Osimhen made his debut for Galatasaray on Saturday evening, as they walloped Rizespor 5-0 in a Süper Lig match played at the RAMS Park, recording an assist in the encounter.
Three minutes into the game, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sánchez opened the scoring, producing a great header to beat the goalkeeper.
In the 15th minute, Osimhen nearly found the back of the net with a header just went wide of the mark.
The Nigerian striker thought he had gotten on the scoresheet when he headed a cross but Abdulkerim Bardakci made the last touch before the ball got into the back of the net, but he was credited with an assist in the 25th minute.
Three minutes before half-time, the 25-year-old was denied getting on the scoresheet once again courtesy of a block from a Rizespor defender.
In the 38th minute, Rizespor centre-back Husniddin Aliqulov collided with the Nigerian striker and had to be hooked off as he suffered a concussion and was taken to the hospital.
Four minutes after the restart, Gabriel Sara increased Galatasaray's goal cushion to three, firing a rebound into the bottom left corner.
A minute after the hour mark, Dries Mertens made it 4-0, striking a shot home to give the Turkish defending champions an emphatic lead.
In the 78th minute. Rizespor goalkeeper Ivo Grbic produced a brilliant save to deny Osimhen from getting on the scoreboard yet again.
Two minutes later, Kaan Ayhan's delightful pass found Baris Yilmaz whose first time shot gave Galatasaray the fifth goal of the night.
Osimhen will have another chance to get his first goal on Tuesday when the Yellow-Reds face Gaziantep F.K. at the RAMS Park.
