UCL: Ex-Everton, Leicester, Fulham man Lookman says he knows what to expect from strong Arsenal team
Published: September 16, 2024Former Everton, Fulham and Leicester City forward Ademola Lookman has spoken candidly about the upcoming UEFA Champions League encounter between Atalanta and Arsenal.
Lookman, a key figure in Atalanta's recent success, was instrumental in their return to Europe’s premier club competition after a standout campaign last season.
Atalanta finished fourth in Serie A and clinched the UEFA Europa League title, with Lookman making a significant impact by scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists throughout the league.
His performance peaked with a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman returned to action for Atalanta on Sunday in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at the Gewiss Stadium.
The Super Eagles forward notched a goal and an assist, continuing the form that defined his last season.
Expressing his enthusiasm about his return to the team, Lookman said to Tutto Atalanta, "Happy to be back in front of this crowd. I'm very happy to be back playing in front of our fans and to do it together with my teammates. I really enjoyed myself today, and I'm proud to be part of such a strong team.
"We worked really well during the summer, and today we showed our value. I'm happy to be back in shape, and I can't wait to continue on this path."
Looking ahead to the Champions League clash with Arsenal, Lookman acknowledged the challenge posed by the Premier League giants.
“Arsenal are a very strong team, and I know what to expect from them. Playing against a team of that level is always a difficult challenge, but we are ready."
He emphasized the significance of the match, stating, “We earned this place in the Champions League thanks to our great last season, and we want to show that we deserve to be here."
"The Gewiss Stadium will be full, and it will be a special environment for a European night like Thursday.
"We are charged and ready to face the match with the right spirit."
Atalanta will host Arsenal on Thursday, September 19, with Lookman and his teammates eager to make a statement in their Champions League opener.
