Turkish Super Lig: Osimhen will not be named in Galatasaray's matchday squad to face Gaziantep FK
Published: September 16, 2024Super Eagles star forward Victor Osimhen will have to wait to make his next appearance for Galatasaray after making his debut against Çaykur Rizespor last weekend.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year will not be named in Galatsaray's matchday squad on Tuesday when they host Gaziantep FK in the Trendyol Super League.
In a statement contained on Galatasaray's official website, Osimhen, Ismail Jakobs and Roland Sallai will miss their next Trendyol Süper Lig game against Gaziantep FK at RAMS Park.
The match was supposed to take place on the third matchday, but it was postponed, and the Nigerian striker, alongside Jakobs and Sallai, was unregistered at that point, thereby making them ineligible to take part in tomorrow's game.
In the absence of the reigning African Player of the Year and the injured Mauro Icardi, Okan Buruk may have to hand Belgium international Michy Batshuayi his first league start.
Galatasaray will be seeking to continue their indomitable start to the season against Gaziantep having won all their four opening games but trail league leaders Fenerbahçe by a point heading into tomorrow's game.
Osimhen played for the entire duration of the game with Rizespor and will now have to wait till the next matchday to make his next appearance and get his first league goal.
The 25-year-old will be up for his first big test in the Süper Lig in the next game as Galatasaray will be facing Fenerbahçe at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
