Arsenal-owned Nigerian-born midfielder falls out of favour at Chesterfield
Published: April 13, 2023Nigerian-born central midfielder Tim Akinola is out of favour at National League club Chesterfield.
Akinola pushed for a loan move to Chesterfield last summer to get a taste of first-team football after recovering from a serious ankle injury he suffered in the second half of last season during his loan spell at Dundee United in Scotland.
The 2022 Nigeria U23 invitee has been omitted from Chesterfield's matchday squad in their last six games in the National League, fueling speculation that he was injured.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Akinola is in good physical condition and has not been called up for a competitive match since March 11, 2023 due to the decision of the manager.
Without the Arsenal loanee in the squad, the Spireites have garnered 13 points from an available eighteen, having won four matches and drawn one.
Akinola and his camp explored the possibility of cutting short the midfielder's loan spell at Chesterfield in the January transfer window but it proved unsuccessful.
The 21-year-old will enter the last one year of his contract with Arsenal on July 1, 2023.
English Football League clubs plus teams in Austria and Israel are understood to be monitoring the situation of Akinola ahead of next season.
