Leeds United and Nottingham Forest join AC Milan in race for Switzerland youth teamer of Nigerian descent
Published: August 06, 2024Apart from AC Milan, two English clubs have shown an interest in signing Switzerland U19 international of Nigerian descent Bruno Ogbus.
Transfer market specialist and Sky Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg informed on Tuesday that Championship outfit Leeds United and Premier League side Nottingham Forest are also interested in talented SC Freiburg teenager Bruno Ogbus.
SC Freiburg have insisted that the dual-national central defender is not for sale in the ongoing transfer window.
The Bundesliga club recently rejected an offer in the low single-digit million range from Italian giants AC Milan as they believe Ogbus has the potential to break into the first team in the not too distant future.
If SC Freiburg manage to keep hold of the Super Eagles-eligible defender beyond the close of the transfer window, he is expected to make his debut in the Bundesliga in the forthcoming season.
Freiburg head coach Julian Schuster promoted Ogbus to first team training during the pre-season and fielded him in friendly matches against SCR Altach, RC Strasbourg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
Schuster praised the 18-year-old for keeping up with the high physical and mental demands during the first team's training camp in Schruns.
He started his career with the academy team of FC Zürich before joining SC Freiburg in January 2022.
Neunkirch-born Ogbus became provisionally cap-tied to Switzerland after playing for the U17s in a European Championship qualifier in March 2022.
