Dramatic turn of events: Omorodion's transfer to Chelsea goes up in smoke, Joao Felix likely new signing

Chelsea had been on the brink of announcing the signing of Spain's 2024 Olympics gold medalist of Nigerian descent Samuel Omorodion, but in a dramatic turn of events, the deal is off.

According to Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, the Atlético de Madrid striker will not be joining Chelsea and is expected to fly out of London after lunchtime on Monday.

There was a triple deal linked to each other with Manchester City star Julián Álvarez  and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher heading to Atlético de Madrid, and the Spanish-Nigerian youngster moving to Chelsea.

After missing the Olympics final, Omorodion's transfer to Chelsea is now completely off despite the player undergoing the first part of his medical in Paris before traveling to the English capital to complete the tests with a view to closing the deal.

There is a possibility that the former Granada starlet will join another European team before the window closes, with Bayer Leverkusen showing interest in the player in recent days when Atlético de Madrid were still discussing with Chelsea.

Julián Álvarez's transfer to Atlético Madrid hinges on another Los Rojiblancos player going to Chelsea and Conor Gallagher moving in the opposite direction.

The powers that be at Atlético Madrid and Chelsea have started discussing other options and one of the players being considered is Joao Félix who is looked after by Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes.

Atlético Madrid, Chelsea and Jorge Mendes are in talks for Félix and the forward would be returning to Chelsea for a second spell if negotiations are fruitful.

Joao Félix played on loan at Chelsea in the second half of the 2022-2023 season and is happy about the opportunity of returning to the Londoners.

The fee Atlético Madrid agreed with Chelsea for Conor Gallagher was similar to that which the Premier League side would have spent on Omorodion.
