Soap opera almost over: Osimhen on his way to Istanbul after agreeing loan move to Galatasaray until June 2025
Published: September 02, 2024One of the soap operas of the summer transfer window involving Victor Osimhen which has captured attention across the globe, is nearing its conclusion.
According to celebrated transfer market reporter Fabrizio Romano, the Nigeria international is presently on his way to Istanbul to complete his move to Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray.
Osimhen was heavily linked with a transfer to Chelsea on deadline day in England, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute after the striker failed to agree personal terms with the Premier League club.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year would have become the second most expensive player in the history of the Saudi Pro League, after Neymar, but a proposed switch to Al-Ahli did not materialize because Napoli were not satisfied with the offer from the SPL side.
Osimhen agreed a new deal before flying to Istanbul - a new release clause of 75 million euros from January 2025 with Napoli having a club option on his deal for the 2026-2027 season.
Galatasaray will cover the entire salary of Osimhen during his loan spell, approximately 10 million euros per season.
The 24-time Turkish champions have made a quick move to sign the Nigerian as they fear Mauro Icardi is set for a spell on the sidelines after he suffered an injury during the first half against Adana Demirspor on Sunday, August 31.
Osimhen's imminent transfer to Galatasaray is a straight loan as no option or obligation to buy has been included into the deal that would keep him at The Lion until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
