Published: September 03, 2024Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, was among the stars at the Venice Film Festival premiere of "Seydou - il sogno non ha colore" on Monday, 2nd September.
The documentary, which focuses on the fight against racism, features an impressive lineup of football personalities, including Serie A legends, Francesco Totti, Ciro Ferrara, and Bernardo Corradi, and players Paulo Dybala (AS Roma), Yacine Adli (Fiorentina), Lameck Banda (Lecce), Danilo Luiz Da Silva (Juventus), and Junior Messias (Genoa).
Produced by Wonder Project in collaboration with Rai Cinema and the Lega Serie A, and a testament to the league's 'Keep Racism Out' campaign, the film highlights Senegalese actor Seydou Sarr and top athletes, emphasizing unity and equality in sports.
The involvement of the Udinese star reflects his commitment to these values, aligning with Udinese Calcio's dedication to inclusivity and social responsibility.
Maduka was the only player to attend the docufilm's premiere on September 2nd, at the Venice Film Festival, and expressed his feelings about working on such a fulfilling project:
"I am very happy and must thank Udinese and Serie A for this opportunity. This project is very important, and I am thrilled to have participated in sending a strong message about integration and keeping racism out of sports.
"As footballers, we must use our popularity to raise awareness on this topic. I have never had any issues of this kind in Udine; we are very happy here, and our club is multicultural.
"The city feels like home to me. The world of cinema fascinates me; it was wonderful to work with Seydou and his team."
Serie A's commitment to fighting racism is evident through initiatives like these which promote inclusivity, respect, and equality both on and off the pitch.
Lorenzo Casini, President of Lega Serie A, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating, "The fight against racism and all forms of discrimination represents one of the key objectives that Lega Serie A has been dedicated to with strength and commitment for many years.
"It is essential to continue these initiatives to counter an ignoble phenomenon against which much has been done, but much more remains to be achieved in terms of education and awareness."
