Ballon d'Or: Super Eagles star Lookman nominated for football's most prestigious individual award

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has earned a coveted spot on the 30-player shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, regarded as football's most prestigious individual award.

The Nigerian international's stellar performance with Atalanta has propelled him into contention for the prestigious award.

Last season, Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta's successful UEFA Europa League campaign.

His standout moment came in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored a hat-trick, contributing significantly to Atalanta's first European trophy.

Over the course of the tournament, Lookman netted five goals and provided one assist, showcasing his pivotal role in the team's triumph.

Lookman will face tough competition from an elite roster of players, including Real Madrid stars Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior, along with other notable names such as Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Dani Carvajal.

In addition to his club success, Lookman also made notable contributions on the international stage.

He played a key role in Nigeria's journey to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, scoring three goals during the tournament and helping his team secure a runner-up finish.

The Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris will host the 2024 Ballon d'Or Awards ceremony on October 28th.
